hot springs ar
have a d35 rear and im trying to replace the axle seal. the one in it has NOK 42914 on the seal but i cant seem to find a cross over. the one i did find gave me a seal # of Timken p/n: 8660S but if i search that one and get the specs on it of:
Wheel Seal I.D. : 1.399"
Wheel Seal O.D. : 2.296"
Wheel Seal Width : .469"

and a p/n: 13990 CR with the specs of:
Wheel Seal I.D. : 1.399"
Wheel Seal O.D. : 2.296"
Wheel Seal Width : .5"

but if i do a search on auto zone or advanced web site their specs on their wheel seals and it lists the timken 8660S.

napas web site dont have a cross reference to the nok number. has anyone changed this seal and remember the part number.

btw i dont have a dial caliper to measure the seal and axle.

i did more research and found on napas web site they list a even diff one. with the specs of:
Wheel Seal I.D. : 1.688"
Wheel Seal O.D. : 2.556"
Wheel Seal Width : .375"

has anyone replaced this seal and know the right part number?

from another forum:

This may be easier to work from the axle side of things ... the axle-shaft diameters are different enough to see easily... (at least with these two axles)

With the 8.25 Chrysler rear axle:
Timken p/n: 8835S
SKF, BCA, or CR p/n: 16044 CR

With the Dana 35 rear axle:
Timken p/n: 8660S
SKF, BCA, or CR p/n: 13990 CR

cannot verify accuracy, but posted for info anyway....

Keep in mind that the seal will be different depending on whether the axle is a c-clip style D35 or the earlier, non-c-clip style. What year is the vehicle, and do you know if the rear axle is the original axle?

Don't the parts stores ask you what year the vehicle is?
