so im putting 4.88 gears in my d30 front axle and i got richmond gears and the pinion gear is about 1"+ longer in comparison to the stock 3.55 or whatever. so I looked up the part number to make sure (on the pinion gear as well as the box) and it says sd3006 which says Dana 30, 4.88 Ratio, 39-8 Teeth. so because its longer the inner pinion bearing just floats and wont sit in where it should. any help?

thanks,
phil

There is a long and a short D30 pinion. I forget but I think the Wrangler and Cherokee use the short one and the CJs use the long one.

Youve got the wrong gear set.The XJ(2000-01) LP D30 uses the "short" pinion TJ set.
