Just put a few coats of etching primer and a few coats of sandable primer on it for now. I am trying to decide what to do with the paint on the Jeep but probably will wait til winter when I can't wheel as much.
Cant wait to see it on the Jeep. I am going to throw it on in a few.
I have the guys number if anyone is interested in doin it. FYI that's 90 louvers. Bitchen.

That's pretty cool. Any negative sides to that many?

I assume you'll be re-welding the hood supports back in? Otherwise, that hood is gonna bounce around on a dirt road...... and might not bounce back.....
Love the look though!

Looks really good, depending on how much it costs, I may consider it. My hood needs new paint anyway.

LOL! You'd be surprised at the stiffness added by the louvers. I am keeping it just in case but the last 3 vehicles he did for me it was not necessary. I dont want to see the brace through the louvers if I dont need to. I'll let you know how this one works out. So far no bouncing.
As for the cost, the guy charges $1.50 per louver so for 90 it was $135.
Add that to stripping the hood as he wants nothing on it when he punches it and repainting. (which you would have to do anyway if your hood is as faded as mine was.
Much more expensive than a pair of vents from the jy but to each his own, right?

Not bad at all, I will definitely consider this one, however I've got a few priorities first (armor).

Yeah, I know I should have done that first too but I couldn't resist.
Looking for a gas tank skid now and a compatable hitch so I can have at least one recovery point for next weekend!

What about snow-load? Do you leave the XJ outside?
I kinda figured in the back of my mind that the louvers would add "some" rigidity, but not that much........ But I have no personal experience either.
Just asking these questions for my own curiosity - I'm tiring of the Lebaron vent mod myself and looking at options for my new rig.....
Still leaning toward the steel cowl hood, but the louvers are pretty groovy....

I believe Yella has a rear hitch for sale, and Collkid has a pre 97 gas tank skid.

Nope - sold the hitch yesterday. There's another one in the For Sale Forum though...... Putzer's ad I believe.

You'll see it soon enough. You can decide for yourself. I need to come and see you for the other parts I need. As you can see I have been busy working on other stuff and wheeling a lot but I am about ready to come and see you.
I'll call you sometime in the next few days.:wave1:

it looks to me like the opening is toward the front ,but not sure if so why but does look good , don't seem like the price has gone up much i paid 1,00 a louver 25 years ago.

The guy is a pro. They are dead tits on. When I first saw it, the angles on the hood made it look off a bit so I admit I got out the ruler and checked.
Now that I know its right it doesnt bother me anymore.
And BTW the openings are at the rear. I will post a better pic later. I mounted it and it looks awesome!

I like the different approach dude, can't wait to see pics of it back on the heep. I'm also curious to see how it holds up without the hood supports. We'd better go wheeling a few times to find out. :D

The picture eflores posted is my rig. My hood feels flimsy without the inner bracing. You can hear that the hood isnt as rigid as beforewhen it shuts. I'm welding mine back in first chance I get. I figured I'd even reglue the skin to the bracing. Your hood looks good... Mine were supposed to be in a V I thought, but it didn't end up that way.

Rather than weld it and get heat warping, use some SEM panel mount glue. It will work great and simplify the task. I will lend you the applicator if you want.

welding it up would be so much easier if some jerk off didnt use the last or your wire and forget to replace it :D

And the rear view.
The cowl shows how bad my hood was so the louvers were much cheaper for me considering I needed to paint the hood anyway.
Can't wait to get back out next weekend!!! Might come by the car show tomorrow to meet a few people but not sure.
