i have a 92 limited 4.0L auto with 194.000miles. when backing up at a idle and when i give it a little gas it will stumble and stall and i can start it right back up with not problems same in drive. if you just push the gas and go like you would taking off normal its ok just if your moving slow it seem to act up. when idling it runs fine and the same going down the road.my guess is the TPS but i'm not sure. i have to take it to get a e test done and would like to fix it before i go as it will most likely have an effect on the out come any ideas would be great. thanks mark

....i have to take it to get a e test done ...

umm...thanks for the reminder--more things to fix..

Could be TPS, but .... this only happens when the vehicle is moving at slow speeds?

I had a similar problem....turned out to be stickey brake caliper(s).

no this is a definite stumble almost like the idle is dropping below the normal just as you touch the pedal, if i step on it like to take off (not hard normal)its ok but is a engine stumble. also if it is a TPS are they adjustable on a 92 or just the renex? thanks mark

tps, not adjustable. i would make sur the throttle body is clean and try to flush injectors first if you havent already done so.

when the engine is cold and is on fast idle it is fine and the stumble is not there but when the engine is warmed up and idling at normal rpm it happens . i'll try cleaning the tb and run some injector cleaner through and see what happens. thanks mark

Did you ever figure this problem out? It is identical to the problem I'm having with my '88 MJ.
