If this is in the wrong forum please move. Just have a few questions. I am looking at getting three flat fender 50's model jeeps. Actual years of the jeeps are unknown right now but are somewhere between 1954 and 1960.

These jeeps are sitting on some property that was recently purchased and they were left there by the previous owner who doesn't want anything to do with them and the new owner does not want them either.

Does anybody know what the drivetrain consists of? What are the axles, tranfer cases, transmissions, and motor? Does anyone have a link or know of a good site to get some info on these?

Kim.

CJ3B if they are flatfenders from between 54 and 60.

They have a high hood and cowl to clear the larger engine (F head Hurricane).

Transmission is T-90, t-case is Dana 18. IIRC the axles are D27 front and Dana 44 rear (10 spline).

Nice little units if you can get past the looks of the high hood. Definately worth restoring and/or resto-modding.

Thanks Moose. I don't really have time to do a restore on one of these. Too many jeep projects going currently. But for free I can't go wrong.

www.earlycj5.com has a lot of info on the various pre-1971 models.

The vintage Jeep Barn at offroad.com has a pretty good section to help ID vehicles. But it's pretty tough to come across an unmolested original anymore.

I am going to and try and get up there this week sometime to see what kind of shape their in. Can't move around to much this weekend. I just might have to get a hold of Rick Pewe from Petersons and see if he wants them:D

If any of them look like a CJ-3a and have a large hole in the cowl section...it's an M38 possibly. I'd be interested in a rear seat frame, underhood battery box, rear tire carrier or a rifle holder on inside of windshield frame...if there.

Take a few pics...if they have any rarer parts you might be able to pocket a bit. Theres a few guys here with vintage Jeeps.

If tomorrow goes better for me I might give a call and see if I can go and take a look and get some pictures. Guy said that one was in the shed that consists of only the frame, axles, tranfer case, trannie, and thats about it. The other two have been sitting outside for god knows how long but everything is on them as far as he knows. He didn't take a good look at them.

FWIW, you can get replacement everything for pretty much any vintage SWB Jeep. Including new tubs. If you can get them for free and have the space to store them it is a no-brainer.

That is my problem about getting them. I have no more room at the house and cannot afford a storage unit right now. All depends on what kind of shape they are going to be in.

This place is like NAXJA for older Jeeps. I used them alot when I was rebuilding my M416 Trailer.

Wish I was where you are. Would let you store here for half the loot. ;)
