Anyone know if a headliner out of a 1998 cherokee sport will fit in a 1988 cherokee laredo?

Thanks

I'm thinking the only potential difference might be at the very rear of it - the hatch design differences between the '88 and '98 I believe changed the structure of the roof/unibody in that area. The difference may simply be in the overall length ('98 being shorter by a bit) but if the trim piece of the '88 is big enough to catch the edge of the '98 headliner once it's in, it should work.

If the '98 headliner has the built in sound bar you may also need to cut the slots into the '88 unibody structure for the plastic tabs to fit into to support the sound bar.

:dunno:

The one I did fit PERFECTLY!

It was out of a '98 and I put it into my '88
It had the integrated speakers in the back.

I was able to use the dome lights and also wire in the speakers too.

The size around the edges are identical.

There will be two extra holes on the back sides - for the shoulder seat belts.

You will want to take the sun visors out of the '98 and put them into your '88.
The '98 sun visors are shorter and the mounting clips are not an exact match.

My '88 had the little remote keylock sensor between the two visors.
I had to cut a small square hole to get it to fit.

Oh, and the front dome light on the newer headliner has the RF receiver in it for the remoteless keylock. Leave it there, but don't hook it up.

If I remember right, it wasn't too hard to hook up the dome lights and speakers.
You'll need some extra wire though.

Thanks guys
Picked up the visors, headliner, dome lights, speaker support for the rear molded in speaker bar, wiring harness out of a 2000. Mint condition

RTicUL8 - did you mount the black plastic speaker support in yours. How did you figure where to cut out the inside edge to put the tabs in?

Did you put in the metal support for the front dome light?

I figure that trial and error and I will figure it out. lol

Thanks

I did this conversion about 5 years ago.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall using the dome light metal bracket that was in the '98.
I think I attached it with liquid nails.

I've seen two types of headliner speakers.
The earlier style had a plastic bar that attached to the outside of the healiner.

The newer style has speakers which are molded into the headliner - there is no "bar" going across that you can see.

I had installed the newer style into my '88 XJ.
It did have two plastic tabs - one on each side.
I did not have to make any holes to get the tabs in - I was able to just push/snap them into place.
