First a little background: 88 Limited with 117,xxx miles. Previous owner put about $1k into it in the year before I bought it. Bought it back in October as a "winter vehicle" only. Yea right. This is my 3rd Jeep and had to sell the last one because I had back surgery about 18 months ago and couldn't afford the payments while off work. Went wheeling as a pasenger back in Febuary and the bug bit again.
I started with an S10 basterd pack and ZJ coils with 2" spacers up fron for about 3" and a cb. Good for a bit. Wheeled it and then found some 33s on CL for a great price so I slapped them on and then had to figure out how to make them fit.
That brings us to this past week.
The day I brought it home:

Looks good if i don't say so myself! ;) Keep up the work!

Why'd you take off the sweet gold limited stripe? :p

Thanks for the compliments. They are indeed TJ rear flares all the way around. I hit them with 2 coats of Krylon Fusion after installing them.
The Limited stripes actually came off in the car wash about 3-4 months ago.

it does not look anything like yours...other then the fact that its red lifted XJ with herc sides. nice plug of your jeep pics.

anyways, like where your going with your project

Lol exactly
2 top threads have him plugging his junk.

Which brackets do you use with the those flares? the stock XJ ones, the TJ ones, or none?
I cut the lip and alignment points off the flares, held them in place on the fender, marked some holes and drilled away. I ended up using 1/4-20 x 3/4" bolts and also added some fender washers on the flare side. That was for the front and the piece of the rear that is on the body. The piece on the door is held on with some 3M adhesive tape.

WOW. I can't believe it's been a year since I started this thread and that I haven't updated it.
The Jeep got some good maintenance over the winter in the form of front and rear main seals. Then the spring started with pulling the interior and carpet to fix what I assumed would be at least some rust. To my surprise, the only holes were in the well under the rear seat on the passenger side.

So I patched those up with some scrap sheetmetal I had laying around. Beyond that all I could find was a bunch of surface rust. Not bad for an 88 that spent the first 10 or so years of it's life on a fish farm. Decided that the rear carpet was too funky to go back in so I broke out some bedliner and bedlined the floor from the rear seat crossmember back. Also decided to make it a 2 seater and use the new space for a little better storage. Built a little platform out of some 2x4s and plywood, added a storage box and came up with this.

So then on a trip to the local you-pull-it, I came home with an 8.8 out of an 01 Exploder with 4:10s and LS for $100. Rebuild went like this: new pads, calipers and rotors, Ruffstuff install kit, Solid cover, raised shock mounts and Rough Country wheel spacers. No pics but I figure you've all seen an 8.8 in an XJ.
So got that installed along with an Iron Rock hack and tap, then went on a look for front gears. Found a set at the same you-pull-it for $10 out of the front of a YJ. Bought some new tools and taught myself how to set them up. Thanks again to those who chimed in when I was having an issue figuring out the patterns. Was definitely a learning experience.
Reinstalled the front axle along with new uca bushings and a set of Ironman 4x4 upper and lower control arms. Very nice product with a really good price and GREAT customer service. Also installed an RE adj. trac bar that I had laying around for a while.
So, did I forget anything? Probably. But for now enough yappin and onto pics from this weekends maiden voyage to Rausch.

And I include this one not for the log but for the shot of my busted up gas tank.

So what does the future hold? The near future atleast includes a new gas tank and either building or buying a gas tank skid. Then in no certain order: front Aussie locker, lca skids, frame stiffeners, tcase skid, turning some s10 tires carriers into tube doors and then who knows.

WOW. Over a year and I haven't updated this.
I replaced the busted fuel tank and smarted up enough to install a Skid Row skid over it.Did a few little things over the next few months: HD Offroad frame stiffeners, 3 row aluminum radiator, Dirtbound Offroad rear bumper and tire carrier, cut up the front bumper.
I also had a set of ball joints, some lca skids to install, and an Aussie along with wanting to box in the pass side uca mount. Decided to just pull the front axle and do it all in one weekend. Pulled the old steering and decided I needed at least one new tie rod end. Ended up finding the JCR OTK one ton setup on sale and ordered that. Also found a good deal on some alloy shafts and a Solid cover. I ended up ordering some Ruffstuff heims and tube adapters to build a trackbar. This was a great reason to use the new plasma cutter I bought a few months back. Also decided that while everything was out of the way it would be a good time to install some front stiffeners.
About this time I decided that this would be as good a time as ever to install some new springs. Ordered up some RE 4.5" coils, 3.5" leafs and 1" shackles. Got these installed and realized my shackle angle was about 90*, so I ordered the HD Offroad shackle relocation boxes. Got these in and now the shackle angle is about 60* and I'm hoping after everything settles it should be closer to 45*. Of course after all this, both driveshafts were too short. A call to Quigley Motorsports later and I had two new shafts. I would recommend these guys in a heartbeat. Ordered at lunchtime on Tuesday and was able to pick them up Wednesday evening.
So everything is back together now and time for some new tires. Leaning towards some MTZs in a 35x12.50 flavor.
Next on the list is some 4.88s, cage and maybe some new seats.
I'll try and get some new pics up this afternoon.

Alright, so as promised here are some photos:
early 80s 240z I believe hood vents I did last year:

Also did some tube doors:

And onto the latest round of upgrades:
One ton steering. track bar and brackets:

one mistake I did make on this end was not having the hole close enough to the edge to get a wrench in to tighten the jam nut. Live and learn:

How she sits now. A little tall for my liking. Hoping this settle a bit. The rear isn't quite as bad as it seems since the flare is a little bent:
