Anyone know of somewhere that will haul off the burnt, slagged, & charred remains of my '90 XJ Carbeque? It burned to the floorboards 2 yrs ago, and is partly cut up, no axles, and the drivetrain's coming out. I tried PickYourPart/PickAPart, and Ecology, and got no love "in this economy".
Rather than hacking the rest into manageable pieces (because it's a slooooooow nasty process), I want to have someone cheaply haul it onto a flatbed & make it go away. It's in my ex's backyard, and the city's giving him grief about it. It's gotta go! The doors, hatch, and roof are already cut off & in a box trailer.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. It's off the I-8 & Hwy 163 in San Diego, and PAP says that's too far away (they're near the border).

They won't take it if you deliver it to them?

If you need help cutting it to smaller pieces let me know!
I would say cut it up then send it to a scrap metal place.
I don't know though.

they'd probably take it if you delivered it to them, tow trucks/tow truck operators aint cheap, and they have all the xj's they want, clean and unloved from cash 4 clunkers.
if i was closer, i'd offer my sawzall skills, ive done the hack-up-to-mj-bed-sizes-and-find-an-ungated-dumpster before, its not fun, long sawzall blades wet w/ oil help.

If you put a free ad on craigslist, someone might pick it up to take to a scrap yard

what makes you think a junkyard is gonna give you a sizeable sum for a burnt out shell of an xj?
scrap is waaaay down right now, you wont get $50 i bet.
and nobody is gonna show up w/ a flatbed to pick it up.... i had a bunch of people say the same bullshit to me when i was doing the same... the scrap buisness is about easy money, not dragging an xj shell onto a flatbed... the guys who drive around the night before trash pickup will be more than glad to take the wiring harness off your hands, but if you think they want a burnt shell of mixed metal/trash... good luck!
have a work party, byoSAWZALL style... shit goes easy if you have a bunch of helpers (i didnt, and still have the scars)

Hmm. Been hacking at it already, making progress. I just don't get home til 6, at it's 7 miles from my house, and then it gets dark, and it's so inspiring to do (not)...yeah.
I don't want money for it, was hoping to pay a nominal fee to have some yard haul it off. No axles makes it a beast to yank onto a trailer, and my ex's car trailer already has a non-running XJ on it that would be a PITA to get back on there if we pulled it off. And with the amount of crap (good & bad) that's in my ex's yard, I don't want some random Craigslist scrapper coming in there nosing around. Sigh. Guess we'll just have to keep cutting.
Anyone want to take my teen kids school-clothes shopping this weekend so I can spend the time cutting up the XJ? :D

No known cancer, but I think the carpet melted to them. The entire interior burned. Other than that, it's been sitting outside glassless under a tarp for the last 2 yrs. Surface rust, but it's a native SoCal XJ, I was the 2nd owner, and the only "offroad" before me was the 1st owner drove it on a dirt road once, I think. And I don't think he towed it anywhere salty. But I dunno how worthy the pans are. I can look next time over there. How much of the pan area is needed? Or bc me your email, and I can email you pix--or send you phone pix if your cell phone's equipped...

Probably not enough to be worth your time...How broke are you, and how much spare time do you have? :D
The roof, doors, hood and hatch are already in a hauling trailer. The rest is ugly, nasty, burnt, some is caked in melted plastic/vinyl, and it's sooty to boot.
I had been hoping for the "$20 or $25 & they'll haul it away" deal but it's not sounding very likely. I'm borrowing another recip saw so Jim & I can both cut at the same time; he only has the one 120v recip.
