View Full Version : Wheeling Sunday??

Going out once again this Sunday. I want to check out Pole Hill, Pierson Park Road and Johnny Park Road.
I have been to Pole Hill on my DRZ 400 but not in the Jeep.
My trail guide shows Pierson to have a short difficult section but I will be going West to East so that section will be downhill and is supposed to be easier that way.
I am still getting used to my Jeep and learning how to pick a good line and such so I though these trails would be good practice.
Any advice on these trails would be appreciated and of course if anyone wants to join in I will be taking my wife and daughters and dogs again.

Man, for a second there I thought you were going to say that you would be washing your hair that day or something.:rof:

If you get fired and or get a divorce by Sunday let me know.

If you change your mind about the trail maybe to something up in the conifer area i would be down.

Maybe next weekend I would be up for some 285 action. I am working construction near Aspen Park so I drive that drive every morning. I wanted to go a different direction for a change.

If you pick some trails up that way, I am up for something next weekend.

Thanks

Well, if you get her running, let me know. I'm not sure I am going to be any help with your issues as I am new to the Jeep thing and I everything I could think of suggesting has already been said.
Good luck with it. I hope you can go.

Heading out in the morning around 8:30. Low key relaxed day, no real schedule. Will do Pole Hill first, then on to Pierson Park Road from north to south where it meets Johnny Park Road and then West to Hwy 36 and home for Dinner.

Bringing the Wife, daughters and Dogs.

I'll post some pics when I get home. Hopefully we'll see you out there somewhere.

Look for this good looking devil if you find yourself in the area.

I"m gong to run from Hwy 36 to Hwy 7 ( CR 47, Pierson Park to Meeker Park ) then back down to Lyons on Hwy 7. If there is time, and there should be, I'll drive on to Estes Park (Hwy 7) and then down Hwy 36 to Lyons.
Fer sure, we will cross paths, so be sure and wave to my red XJ (stock bumber & 2" rcvr hitch, grey D ring in the front, shorty black roof-rack & tall mag-mounted CB antenna). Sorry no pics.
I'll be leaving at about the same time, passing by Wal Mart at or just before 9am. I have to get back to Longmont before 1pm for some voluntary work. :banghead:CU on the road/trail.
Tomorrow: Cloudy in the morning followed by isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

Had a great day Wheeling today! Pole Hill, Pierson Park Road and Johnny Park Road. All three were fairly subdude but just what the doctor ordered for the wife and kids and an unfamiliar Jeep.

Saw some wild turkeys......

I've heard Pole Hill described on here as a dirt road with a great view...well OK, maybe for some of you with more experience, but it does have a few fun spots mixed in here and there.

This is the most difficult stretch of Johnny Park Road, a very short section that put my 3.5 inch lift through the paces but was definately not too tough. It was the most technical terrain I have been on in the Jeep so it was definately fun. Pictures never do the trail justice.

And so it goes, another great day four wheeling in the Colorado back country.

Next up I think I want to go check out the T-33 plane crash near Bunce School Road, Anybody want to go next Sunday?????

Very good pics, that looks like an awesome trail, I will have to check it out sometime. I may be good to go next sunday, as i'll have the next day off, so I won't have to worry about getting anything done on Sunday. I'll get back to you closer to Sunday.

Sucks you keep having to go alone. Never a fun or good thing. Once I get the suspension ordered and rear end swapped in I'll be down for whatever I can tackle with the crap tires I'm on. Great pics.

Sucks you keep having to go alone. Never a fun or good thing. X2! At least you are taking easier stuff and getting used to how your heep handles.

No matter how hard the trail, an awshit in the mountians is magnified 1000 times per child present. Never mind how I know this...

Edit: NICE PICS!!!!

Yeah, I have been trying to take it easy on the girls and the Jeep. That is why the trails I have been doing are close in and usually no more than 6-8 miles from civilization. It's hard to feel lonely with all the seat belts taken up and two dogs in the back. I have never felt uncomfortable at all and I have always been prepared for a nights stay if needed. I also always have someone ready to come get me if I need them. Last but not least I try not to pick a trail that can't be done by about 4 PM so it leaves plenty of time to get the kids out (and the Jeep) if necessary. There is that possibilty of someone getting injured that would definately be better to have another vehicle.
Later in the year I will be thinking a lot differently and certainly preparing differently as the weather starts to change.

Next year I hope to be fully prepared to go on some more difficult trails where it will be necessary to travel in a group. I love to lend a hand as well so if you ever find yourself needing help in the back country, call me.

In fact on my favorite motorcycle forum, we have a place where we can list our contact info and location as well as what equipment and tools we have so that if someone is stranded they can call on whoever is close to help out. Not a bad idea for here as well.:dunno:

I was thinking of this http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=123

and then this http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=174

and maybe parts of this http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=175. I dont want to break anything as I need my Jeep to go to work on Tuesday. So I'll play this by ear.

I've got a new creaking sound under my rig. Sounds ugly. I'll be investigating and repairing whatever that is in the morning and I need to locate a spare tire and wheel. At least a 31". Other than that I am ready to go on Sunday AM and would love some company. Wife, daughters and dogs will be with me again.

I would love to be there when you try out that Aussie. That is the one I have pretty much settled on so far.

Here is or trip report when we did it a little over a month ago:
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1002982&highlight=plane+crash

Bunce School Rd is pretty dam boring and not very scenic, we ran out of time and wasn't able to hit Ironclads. BTW when you get up to the plane crash site there is not much room for parking, so if there are already a few rigs there, you may have to get creative on a parking spot. The whole area is on a good slant, it makes it a bitch to try and set up a grill and cook lunch.

Great! What do you want for the MTR? Is it mounted on a rim? I'd be willing to help a bit with the brakes and such but I am watching the oldest play softball in the morning. Should be done around 11 or so.

Yup, its mounted on one of these (http://www.quadratec.com/products/92702_000.htm), in pretty good condition. Its very lightly used and it has a good amount of tread left, I've never driven on it and I don't think the PO did either. PM me and make an offer.
Hopefully I'll be done with the brakes by 11... I gotta fix the calipers and install them with the new rotors, and then swap in the lines, then the rear shoes, then flush and bleed. If I need a hand after 11 I'll let you know.
