91 fuel pump ???

hey guys i have a 91 XJ I can not get the fuel pump to pump I have the pump out and can hear/see it running but as soon as i put it in the tank it wont pump any fuel so what gives???
 
Are you getting it to run on the same wires as it does in the tank? If not, check for voltage on the wires. If yes, maybe the pump can run, but not good enough to turn when actually under load.
 
Do you have the polarity correct?

Some aftermarket pumps are reported to be backasswards.
 
Um that’s ok bud i didn’t tell you guys that it was new so that was my fault.

As far as polarity correct I have power to the blue wire that runs down to the fuel gage thing and the red wire is hot when i turn the key over so i would assume that it’s right. If it wasn’t right you would think it would still pump but send fuel out the return line instead of the main fuel line I cant even get this to do that.
