View Full Version : Bumper works, brakes dont-

Today I found out that my home-build front bumper works fine, and my lousy stock brakes really don't. On the corner of Hwy 201 and 5600 W I bumped into the back of a Liberty after standing on the brakes for what seemed like WAY too long. There ended up being no damage but it moved my brake improvements up a long ways on the priority list. I think a new booster and rear disk will get me by just fine, but I still really want to end up with hydroboost by the end of the winter.

At least my bumper is smaller than MogifiedXJ's. If I had that much mass I'd still be trying to stop, or use it for an anchor and stop on a dime :D

Rear discs are the way to go. The stopping on my Jeep is night and day difference.

Check you soft lines. They could be swelling so you don't get good pressure. That is one that gets missed.

I'm happy with my rear disc upgrade. Well mostly. I need to get the e-brake work correctly. No park with a stick.
The best part was I got a new axle and LS with it. :D

I'll take a look at the lines, I've already completely flushed the fluid and changed pads/shoes. the adjusters don't work consitantly though, and I hate rolling under it just to adjust the stupid brakes.

What axle do you have? My 8.25 has the LS and I like it a lot.

Ryan, which Transwest quoted you $20/side for the disk parts? If it's the one in North Ogden I'll have to stop by on my way to/from my pheasant hunt this weekend. Won't my wife love that, lol. this hunt is her birthday present.

Yeah No.Odgen. Since I gave you the hint you should pull two sets...I will give you the money for the second set. :D

If your serious, I'll pick one up for you. Are you working on your house Friday night? I can get off work a little early and help out but I won't be able to have the nail gun or compressor I was hoping for.

I don't know when I will be home on Friday. For that matter I am still not sure I can get the weekend off. :(

I guess we will either be work on you roof or watching the Holy Grail on your 60" this weekend......:D

Please get it off, I don't want to have to go watch a band competition in Logan :bawl:
Yes, I think I'd rather be roofing.....

Ryan, if your not going to be around I'll try to head up to Transwest on Friday. Otherwise I will do it Saturday sometime.

Any idea what tools I'll need to pull the backing plates? I didn't even get the caliper last time so I have no idea what is under the rotor of the ford disks. I imagine I'll have an axle nut to pull- any idea on size?

backing plates should be regular sized bolts and nuts.

Right- but I should have to pull the axle first, right? I assume it has a C-clip and the diff cover has to be pulled to get it out but I don't really know. I'm a little concerned driving clear up to No. Ogden and not having something I need to get it all pulled off.

I looked at them. To me it looks like they are a c-clip axle and the backing plates were held on with regular old bolts. I imagine you have to take the cover off...pull the cclips and then the backing plates should just come right off....I think.
