89 cherokee starter relay location?

my friends 89 cherokee 4.0 wouldn't turn over, it wouldn't even send power to the starter. so i replaced the starter and still nothing from the key. everything else worked tho. i could start it with a screw driver but the key wont get it started, i looked in the book for a starter fuse or relay and it doesn't show anything at all, is there a relay or something and if so, wheres it at? pictures?

i think it is underneath the cover in front of the coolant reservoir.

auto trans? If so, try starting it in neutral-- the neutral safety switch seems to be a rather common problem on them. See if you have back up lamps too- often the failed switch will keep you from having them also.

Starter relay is under that plastic cover just behind the battery. Follow the smaller positive cable from the battery and you'll find the relay where it terminates.
