Its a brand new Midland 5001Z Cb. I finaly have a working CB I hope lol. And i dont know how to work it all yet, Its quite a bit more hi tech then my old cobra one. And I got it for half the price it really is.
-40 Channel Display
-RF gain control
-Noise blanker
-Pa function
-Automatic noise limiter
-X-tra talk mic control
I have to idea what half those things are or mean lol, but i guess ill figure them out. Going to mount it and be ready for saturday. And the best part is that its already tuned so I dont have to

I dont know yet. My problem is I got a cheap mag mount antenna with the pre determined length so I have to find out where to route all of it.

Thats what im planning on using for this next trip cuz i think something wrong my my hood mount. Just keep it off for now, then when we go saturday stick it on the roof and run the wire through one of the back windows to the CB. Thats what im going to do. Unless i figure out whats wrong with my mount. I may try to mount my whip one on the roof but i would need a new cable so i dont know.

I am wondering if I will need one. I am currently using a plug for the cig outlet but it is giving alot of interence while the engine is running. I just read online that powering it like that will give alternator whine. So I going to wire it to the battery and ground it somewhere under the hood and see if it sounds any better. Are you going to install it tonight?

Ya I just read in the manual that came with it that using the Cig outlet can cause that. And to eather wire it to the battery or to the 12Volt outlet. My Cobra one is wired to the 12Volt outlet on the back side, im going to strip it and pull it tonight. Then this new one eather has to be wired to the batter or the 12Volt outlet, it dosent have a cig litter plug in. So im going to wire this one as well into the 12Volt outlet and be done with it. But ya im going to wire it up tonight.

Well, how did it go Chad? Mine went pretty well. I wired it throught the radio antenna wire plug on the passenger fender. Had to pull the fender and half of the front clip to get it wired but it was worth it. I think I need to tune the antenna still but it sounded pretty good when I went down I25 and passed some truckers to pick up some signals. Just need how find out how I will permanently wire the antenna. Saturday will be a good test. Can't wait!

It went pretty smooth and quick really. Took me about 20min if that. Pulled the center plate of the dash apart, unscrewed the 12Volts outlet, cut the old CB wires, cut the new Cb wires to the length I wanted them to, used some bullet connectors to connect them. Drilled out some new holes for the mount and put the CB in the same spot my old one was. Threw my shot little magnetic antenna on the roof plugged it in and turned it on and I was hearing static so Im guessing it works lol. I as trying to pick up channel 9 which is the weather channel and I couldent but that could be b/c I was in the middle of a neighborhood. I guess Ill just have to see if it works saturday. If you wanted to we could meet eachother later tonight and see if we can hear eachother on them and know if anything is wrong with them.

Hey justin my bad I dident text ya. I was working on the jeep trying to get my check engine light to go off. Ever since we installed that over ride switch its been on. I dont think the fan is turing on automatically like it should be. But anyways if you want to we could do it tomorrow night when you get off, I know for sure that I have nothing going on. Let me know

Yeah, ch9 is for emergency radio traffic. Weather channel is usually determined by pushing a button on the radio and it'll broadcast on whatever channel the radio is currently switched to (on dial style radios), newer radios with digital displays will default to say Ch1 for weather to broadcast on.

I think I have used my CB twice while on the trail. Its always seemed pointless to me. Funny, because it was one of the first things I did to my Jeep, and its been in there up until recently.

I hoping that ill be there. Dam check engine light came back on today and I was running way hot again. The dam fan is not running by itself. Ive gotten the code checked twice and both times it was the radiator fan relay, ive replaced it twice and still nada. It keeps coming on. So im gona take it to get the code red again tonight, and see what else the problem could be.

Did you unplug the override switch( take the wire off of the relay). The relay may have gone bad.

Also most scanners only read the FIRST code that pops up.
