 Cool! A new thread in the events section! That means we're getting closer!

I plan on being there but I plan on camping this year. I hope I ducted the rainy weather last yr so maybe '10 won't be so wet. I can handle cold but the wet makes me miserable.

I believe at least the two other guys who came with me the last couple times will be there also and camping.

I'll be there. I'll be camping. As with the plans for the last several years I'm in the hunt for a Truck camper (depending on fundage)...otherwise its a tent...even with a MegaCab, there's just not enough room for two in the back...

I'll bring one of the two XJs...or maybe both...depending on how things go and whether Chaz has a tow rig by then...

not sure how the work schedule falls yet, but I'll be there at least Friday evening to Sunday, with possibly a Thursday evening arrival...

approached teh wofe this evening about a new gooseneck trailer and a camper...suprisingly I was not shot down immediatly. She said to wait till after harvest before I go spending any big money like that, but she was in favor of even thinking about a pick up camper of the pop-up flavor and keeping our old car hauler trailer... I am wanting to go for the gusto and mimic the trailer on Extreme 4x4 that had the pop up camper mounted across the front, but that would limit the use of the trailer for "farm" use (unless I can fool my tax man :D) :dunno:

You've got a front-end loader on one of those big tractors don't you? Make that pop-up removable. Rig up some sort of turnbuckles to attach it to the trailer.

oh buddy, dont think that he gears (as limited as they may be) are not turning in my head! I was thinking about that and using the double length forks on one of the loaders to lift it on and off, and then I thought about using a pulley system to lift it off and store it up off the ground by the rafters in one of the machine sheds out of the way and away from mice (even thought hey will eventually find their way in) I can score a pop-up trailer of an older flavor for well under $3000 and get a good 24-26" gooseneck trailer that is still usable for many other items around the farm and hope to be in it all for well under $10K...possible find a year end close out trailer for around 5-6K

Hillbilly Haulers...I dig em...unfortunately they have to be gigantic to have the camper and two rigs...at least I feel if I'm towing one, I should be towing two cause the fuel trade off is only 1 - 2 mpg...hence the bumper pull and desire for a truck camper...plus the bumper pull leaves me still in the dreaming range of some day having a bigger hillbilly toterhome (i.e. pirate uhaul conversions) or...

and cheeseman my buddy just sold his 26ft goose for 3k this spring...tho it had hit the fire hydrant :)

Would you guys tolerate a NAC member at Winterfest?

I've got some vacation time I'm itching to use, I haven't had a good road trip in too long, and the Badlands is just 12 hours from my door in New York. My grandmother lives exactly halfway, in Cleveland. So drive out there in two days, see my grandma, wheel the XJ and meet all you MWC characters, and then drive home in two days and see my grandma again. Sounds good to me, if you all can tolerate me.

P.S. I promise to bring good local beer.

Keep in mind that the small amount of stuff that's required for a NAXJA run is stuff that just makes good wheeling sense.

We've all been behind a group of people who didn't have recovery gear or recovery points on a trail run waiting. It certainly doesn't cost a lot of money to do it the right way. They should look into spending 50 bucks on that gear instead of 2 cases of beer they're going to have sometime between now and march.

everyone I wheel with has tow points, safe vehicles, properly mounted batteries, and no one uses chains for recovery.

of the 3 people I know that would probably come with, I have enough recovery gear to take care of them in most any situation. I carry two fire extinguishers as well as a hilift and a floor jack I'm building that uses a pneumatic/manual 8 ton ram, so we're covered. by then I should even have my on board air.

basically, I see no need for them to spend their money on any of these things when I have them covered already.

gave it some thought...I'm not interested in groups divided by tire size. I like you guys and will be happy to meet you all down there, but I'd like to wheel with the guys I know, who range from 31" to 36" tires, on various jeep axles.

last I checked, the stock jacks are too short even with 31's, and one or two hilifts to a group is more than enough.

the one guy on 33's has a winch, I have 3 brand new straps, and I bring spare parts.

and yeah, I'm bein stubborn and a bit pushy on this...and not everyone packs in like I do, but I know we're all good enough people to lend our first aid kits, fire extinguishers, jacks, and tow straps to a fellow member and/or their guest.

I just don't think someone should be turned away from this event based off of not having one or more of these things. We're wheeling in groups, so this should be covered whether or not one member doesn't have some or all of these items.

Noone is being turned away. Everyone has plenty of time to get the required equipment. It's all common sense stuff that everyone should have anyway. That's why I started this thread (http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1004927) back in August. There will be a group for everyone that attends WF. The whole point of WF is to fellowship and wheel with guys that you don't normally get to wheel with. Why not split your normal group up and live a little bit? You might learn something new and I can promise you, you will meet some really great people.

your stubbornness really really really confuses me...a factory jack will work with a lot of jeep setups and a block of wood is a good help...a fire extinguisher should be in every wheelin rig...not sure why you are a keeper of all things...maybe its the pick up bed..but still, a cheap 10 or 20 fire extinguisher in each rig WILL save time cause sometimes we all aren't RIGHT next to each other...first aid kits are cheap, if you want to be the holder of the one that has everything, thats cool, but your buddies should have the 10 dollar kit in their rigs anyways...and...seriously, if you got three straps, pass them out to your buddies, they can get their own for 20 bucks or less...so were only at 50 bucks...couple cases of beer, or a 1.75 of jack...if that isn't affordable then I dont know what to say...

come and wheel outside of NAXJA that's find, but seriously the requirements are not out of this world, i think we should require a cb, but we don't...that still can be done inexpensively...

You've got people with you on 31's that would have a blast following Rev around a milder trail instead of struggling on the same trail that your friends on 36's like to ride.

Or you've got a buddy who's on 35's that has to drive over an easy trail because your other guy only has 31's and can't go on the harder trails.

Trust me when I tell you that wheeling with your friends is a good time. You already know that. But wheeling with your ability group can be a GREAT time, because you're on a trail with people of your experience and vehicle ability level.

Don't do a disservice to your friends by being stubborn. Share what you've got and let them go out and enjoy themselves.

My wife and I and my brother and his wife went all over Moab rim with guys from Cali, Colorado, Utah, etc. Didn't know them from a hole in the wall at 8 in the morning and we spent all night at the banquet sitting with them and trading stories like we were old friends

It's not always about wheeling, sometimes it's about friends.

I have one friend on 31's, and he was fully capable of keeping up with me and 89eliminator on previous badlands runs. I've got no issue running mid-class.

another friend on 33's has a gnarly built cheromanche that's exo'd and on 33x13.50 tsl superswampers...he's full welded rear, and fully capable of doing everything I do (and typically more, being the redneck of the group who's not satisfied til it comes home broke)

and another friend who's never been wheeling per se except for mudding in his stock 87 swb comanche on 31" swampers. he's going to be coming down with the new comanche I'm building for him...it's on 36" superswampers and will have a d30/d44 combo. the tires were too good of a deal to pass and I won't have time for fullsize axles by then.

of those 3 guys who'd be coming, 2 are on naxja though they don't post much. one of those two (the guy on 31's) doesn't really need to have their hand held.

either way, it doesn't much matter to me. I've been to the badlands 3 times, and there's only two trails that I know of that I haven't done...and don't intend to do unless I'm exo'd. IIRC that's the red and pink.

so it doesn't much matter where I run, it's all been done before.

So, I don't know where you guys get off saying "it's not about the wheeling"...as far as I'm concerned, if I'm going on a wheeling trip, I'm friggin wheeling.

It's akin to going up to crivitz and spending your entire day @ the pipeline watching rednecks break crap...I didn't drive 4.5 hours to watch, that 4.5 hour drive was really to get to McCaslin and beat on my rig.

Lets move on guys.

jeepcomj - If you guys want to register, take part in the dinner, campfire, and run your own trails OUTSIDE of the groups, fine. We cannot stop you, it is a public park.

You should however know what the official stand on this is, not trying to bust your balls, but want to put it right here, in black and white.
If you run your own trails, you can expect:
No recovery services, other then in a situation where injury could occur.
No possibility of winning the coveted Frankenspare.
If you break on trail, we will help you off the trail or go around so our group can proceed.

I know this sounds harsh, but this is the "official" stand on this issue.

You can expect:
Friendly treatment
Saturdays campfire
A really good dinner on Saturday
Medical attention should we meet up on the trail, and you need it.
Normal wheeler to wheeler considerations on trail.

All this being said, if you have further questions please PM me.

Now....lets move on off this subject and get back to the actual WF questions.

Further posts concerning this will be deleted.

I think I'm just gonna leave friday after work, come alone, wheel with you guys saturday, and drive home saturday night.

I'll take them wheeling a different weekend...I'd feel terrible if anyone had to deal with the guy with the gnarly xj...he's pretty much gotta be kept on a leash as far as rules of wheeling are concerned, so I more or less have to be wheeling with him...and the other guy won't know how to stay off the skinny pedal or wheel apropriately.

so, I'll be there to wheel with you guys, abide by your rules, and meet some fellow jeepers. Thanks for clarifying the situation...

to those attending, I suggest you take a look at your signature. You may want to edit your signature to include your first name, or whatever you want to be called. "Sexy biatch" is already taken by Tyler. :D So, by time WF2010 is here, we can call you by your first name at the event.

That's why I changed my username a few weeks ago. It's now my actual last name, so everyone can just call me that (my friends do that a lot). Or call me Matt, that works too.

somewhat correct...your a "sessy bisch" that derives more from the spanish translation, not to be confused with a "sexy biatch" that derives from the sexy farmer with man boobs translation. It all is really basic grammer.....

I think we should all find our own name tag at home. Let's try to be creative, whether it is a plain white sticker with your name written in sharpie. Or, you have your name laser made in metal hanging around your neck on a chain. Don't forget, you may be wearing a t-shirt or Carharrt jacket. Any other ideas on this???

I've got a black work shirt with no sleeves I was gonna make into my "rock concert" shirt. I've thought about getting the company that does our uniforms to make a black with yellow trim and lettering name patch with my SN on it. I think this just maybe enough motivation to spend the $4.

Thursday evening there is a group that always gets together at a local restuarant called Robie's at around 6 inthe evening, friday night is the potluck dinner, The official wheeling is saturday morning and usually everyone does whatever for lunch, then that night is a catered meal that is part of the registration fee. Don't worry you won't go hungry! :D

Well, I got my call for vacation picks last weekend... of course they had to call me on my way into the grocery store after having a few drinks. Regardless, I got my time off for Winterfest, woot. So I'm about 90% sure I'm in. Now, to get the Jeep running again since it's got a dead battery and has been sitting for 3 months and it's .2 degrees outside. Maybe if I win the lottery in between I'll get my 60 and 44 done too. As long as I get it running and working again by WF I'm in.
