looks good. did that daryll guy make those for you from craigslist? they look like his. i got a rear bumper from him but didnt like the way he did his mounts to the body. very cheese and weak. no big deal i just made my own!!! i like the look of your jeep!

August 15th, 2009, 08:35
I got them from another guy from craigslist, but yeah i am pretty sure that guy made them. I am going to change the rear mounts as well.

August 15th, 2009, 09:29
yeah he just used the stock mounts and welded 4 pieces of metal to them. i cut them off and welded 2x2 tubing and used plate to mount it. also sucked it in a few inches.
his crappy mounts

not when you have the tire swing mounted to the top of the bumper. it is only about an inch from the tail gate.
stewie
August 15th, 2009, 23:18
why, oh why do i keep seeing these craptastic crumpers on here? i have seen another one with the same mounts, same style except for the ends of the bumper and it was way to flimsy to pull with or hold a decent spare tire. the tube was way thin.

August 16th, 2009, 16:49
Wow relax stewie! I am perfectly happy with the bumper, i am gonna change the mounts and it will suite me just fine.

Bill, im not trying to get upset or anything. on the one that i have seen and dealt with, 1/8th inch plate was beef conmpared to what it was constructed of

ya that sticks out way far! I also cant believe the shackles are bolted through the face of it. Weld those suckers on with a big 220 welder or better yet get it professionally welded.

The problem is that people see a low price tag and Jump on it.. One day thay will eventually learn that in this hobby.. if you wanna play, you gotta pay. There are so many inferior products out there today it's friggin disgusting.. I know money's tight, but if you budget and plan ahead and use the talents that your friends have you will not only build a better friendship you will also learn something.. you never know, you may just be putting food on thier table.. Everyones out to make a quick buck.. Look for those that are out for the satisfaction of building something that will not only last but will be something that will hold it's value.

i didnt pay a dime for mine so i couldnt beat the price! i traded the guy so stuff i didnt use. the bumper isnt the best but it does a pretty good job so far. i have a 34' tire hanging on it and it is holding up. for the non hardcore wheeler its a good bumper.

Well so you all know a guy on this board was supposed to build me bumpers a long time ago but then failed to ever call me back or send pics of what he previously built or had in mind or go anywhere on it and that was months ago. I called and called and go no response, So if i have to make something better myself i will.

Its cool that a group of guys that are so called wheelers would sit and crap on someones stuff. Sorry not all of us are made of money and can go out ad spend 1500 bucks on a bumper to suite you and make your needs happy. I paid pretty much nothing for these bumpers and am very happy with what I got. So to those of you that made the compliments thanks to the rest of you enjoy your 1500 dollar bumpers and you 1200 dollar plus lifts, and the fact that you wanna talk crap about people stuff.

I think the bumper looks good.
I just know that when someone has one I shouldn't try to pull them out of the mud attached to it that's all. I've seen people get hurt from a poorly attached tow point.

Exactly! Learn to do it and save money. Only having to buy materials would cost way less then buying something premade.

Your right. Not all of us are made of money.. That's why we rely on our skills and our buddys and a lil bit of cash to build stout stuff.. It's cool that you got a great deal on some bumpers.. Hell I don't even have bumpers on my crawler.. But you are also here to learn, am I correct ?
So In light of us sharing our knowledge and skills, you will get varied opinions. We weren't bashing your rig, and we weren't bashing your choice in bumpers.. I simply think that you could have gotten a better product from one of us wheelers that are willing to help and share knowledge. I guess you mis understood some of the posts that were made...
Take care

Dave, i have posted on numerous occasions to get someone to help build be bumpers and no one stepped up to help so to wait for someone to step up and help would obviously have never happened. You guys can give all the advice and opions you want but until some steps up like you claim people will do, I will do it my way and be satisfied with the decisions I make.

Your going to need alot more mounting points than that if you dont want it to tear of the rig!

For sure.
I had a bumper with (8) 1/2" grade 8 bolts through 1/4" steel on my silverado and the entire bumper ripped off the truck... and that was just pulling me out of the snow! I had to re-design it with 10 Grade 8 3/4" bolts going through both sides of the frame...

Humm Same bumper I have...
I did re-fab the way the front bumper mounted to the XJ & in turn gave a template to Daryl so he could make there mounting better.
But my front bumper has survived several trails & even made it thru this... http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w79/pzelez/DSC_1416Medium.jpg
The rear is the same "cheesy" mount with the (8) 1/2" bolts & a stock tire carrier welded onto it... also holds a 33" tire just fine too.
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w79/pzelez/DSC_1211.jpg
And held up after this too... it did finish off the stock tire carrier but the bumper didnt have any ill effects.

Bill it looks good!
Glad you were finally able to find some bumpers and get them installed!
Sorry I wasent available to help out on the install
