Well I have wanted to start learning some welding and now I sort of have a chance to justify one as the church needs a person to repair broken chairs where their welds have been broke. It would also be cool to learn to fab some stuff on my own etc.
If anyone has a welder/metal working gear/books that they might want to get rid of cheaply :) that would be good to learn with etc please let me know.

You should try to find an ROP class around your area. I used to go to the ROP welding class in Ramona, sure it was a little drive but it was free and they teach you how to do lots of things like arc, MIG, TIG, gas, how to use a cutting torch, plasma cutter, etc.

I found an ROP welding class I am interested in. Do you have to be seeking work in the field, because it seems that is the purpose of ROP classes??
I have no intention of trying to become a professional welder... I just want to learn.

Do you have a link, or the Ebay member name you bought it from... because I am not seeing that deal on Ebay.
Thanks!

For those in San Diego...

The autobody teaches welding and some fab stuff, sheetmetal, etc. Not that the instructor is an offroader or anything. :)

crap no edit button. Oh well, watch craigslist. We've scored Miller 135's on there for < $250 and those will do most the stuff you need on a Jeep. A 175 or 180 is nice too if you have 220V.

I've been checking out craigslist... but being that I know next to nothing about welding, I wouldn't know a good deal if I saw it.

I took a welding class at Centre City College, it was good.
My work paid me 11.00 an hour to take the class for job training. 40 hours a week learning to do something I wanted to do.
They teach you everything you need to know and its free.

I took a bunch of welding classes in San Berdoo. The classes were fun, I learned a grip, and they were really cheap. I can't remember exactly what school it was, but it is off of Waterman and Highland somewhere. I have enough behind me to get certed, but have no reason to spend the 200 bucks and make a trip into (gasp!) Los Angeles. Puke.
