My gas gauge is pegged out and i was wondering what was the problem, the only thing i can think of would be the fuel pump float, is that right?:helpme:
float is attached to a variable resistor-- if the wire to it is shorted to ground, it will read "way full" all the time too. Pull the wire at the tank and measure resistance to ground both directions. There should be fairly high resistance both directions-- if theres little-to-no resistance one direction or the other, thats the side with the short.
The fix would be to replace the resistor (float assembly) if the short to ground were between the connection at the tank and the float in the tank.
The fix would be to repair the wire or gauge assembly (more likely the wire) if the short to ground were between the connection and the front of the vehicle.
You'll want to check both directions before you can determine what needs repair.
