Question about D44 Shafts

After searching my A$$ off I decided to post:

Would it be possible to use Scout II D44 axleshafts in a narrowed Ford HP 44 Housing?? I know the Scout axle is a passenger side drop and the Ford is driver's side drop. Basically, can you swap them? The reason I ask, is I got a Ford housing for free and a guy will give me some Scout shafts for free.

p.s. He measured the complete Scout assembly for me and it measured 59 3/4" WMS to WMS, which is right in the ballpark...thanks again.

I dont know. But sence there free just take them and try!

If the axles have been used, you might have issues running them in the opposite direction.
I know with VWs, if you swap axles or torsion bars from one side to the other, they tend to snap.

They are axle shafts, they load the same way regardless of direction.

I guess this is true for some things, Like a D30 carrair pin snapping in reverse, but it woulnt matter on somthing like this.
