So Homey is on his first trail ride with CAOS and doing well, when he's climbing a mild hill...and it dies. :dunno: Just like that. Running one minute, and dead the next. So...we all stood around looking at it for awhile....got fuel...no spark....at plug...nuthin coming out of the coil....so someone suggests CPS....Soooo I drag his #ss off the trail:looser:...we head to Autozone who's got one for $40party1:...head back to camp...change the sensor...with some explives thought and probably mumbled:eyes:...and no fire.
Any Ideas??:dunno:

Oh yeah, we're heading back this afternoon and probably going to get it trailered home

Wow, that title scared me. You really should have phased it differently. I thought something really bad had happened.

This sounds weird, but could the coil itself be the culprit? I've seen them act up on older vehicles. We'd swap them out and, vroom, away we'd go.

I'm thinking the coil itself as well. What year Jeep are we talking?

Wow, that title scared me.

Yeh, I figured that would get some attention...
It's a 91, 4.0, Auto with something more than 170k on it. I was thinking coil too, but I'm only used to stand alone coils....I'm thinking there is something "behind" the coil controling it? ECU? Wasn't sure if we could just replace the coil.
Thanks for the help!

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm not really dead...just the Jeep!! I promise it was not my idea of a title. Were heading out in an hour or so, now that we have daylight should be easier to spot things like loose grounds, etc. Thats what it actied like also. Plenty of power then NONE!!

We'll let you know the outcome...thanks again

What about the MAP sensor vacuum line? Sounds like what mine did.

Dr. Randy and Andy I changed the title. Hope you don't mind.

I'm going with the coil, Its happened to both of my 96's, just out of the blue dies and no spark. I'll bet the coil is cracked like both of mine have been. I carry a spare and I'm running the Firepower coil which is lasting very good, 2 years now.

Yea thanks guys! Ed thanks for changing the thread title. We were on the trail so i guess the way your brain works, we NEVER think it's something simple! WRONG...start simple and work your way up. This could have been fixed in about 30secs. no kidding. ALWAYS check the 30 amp MAXI fuse (the big ones) in the power dist. box near the battery. Again my symptons were running fine then died. no spit, sputter, nothing just dead.

Thanks again, maybe this will help someone else out........i feel DUMB!!

Now you need to find what caused that fuse to die! Something shorted in that circuit.

sometimes its not anything at all, it happened in one of our jeeps once, we replaced it and its still running today, and that was 2 years ago that it blew

1 of the big MAXI fuses (30 AMPS) in the power dist. box behind the battery labeled "ENG CONTROL". I've been busy as heck with work so i haven't even messed with it yet. The only place i know to start is in the manual in the sch. for that circuit. I have a few spares i keep now, i might just wheel it and if it does it again then start to investigate. Hell it's 17 yrs old, something got to give right!!

have a good weekend all

I MIGHT get into it this weekend, or i might just wheel it and hope it dosen't happen again. Let me know about your bumper's i'm free most all weekend, i'll give you a hand. Paint em' up Fri evening and we'll hang'em sat. We can do it here if needed, based on DA BOMB!
