I went junkyarding for rear disk brakes today, came home empty handed. Sommers Auto wouldn't sell the backing plates without the entire axle. Pick-n-Pull had a ZJ, but someone had already nabbed the passenger side plate and caliper.
I found a bunch of Crown Vics, but I busted my Torx bit twice trying to get the first bolt off. grrrr. I also found that the mid-ninetys Dynasty has the same brakes as the ZJ (I'm pretty sure, they look REALLY similar), but I didn't have the tools I needed to get them off. There are several at the P-N-P though-.
Oh well, at least I got the new U-joints at NAPA for the front shafts but ran out of time to get them in tonight so that broke even.

Dude, I didnt know you were looking for ZJ rear disc brakes or I coulda sent you a heads up.
Last week I was at PnP on 3300 south (50% off day) and there was a 93 ZJ there with rear discs.
I was there today and they were ripped off already.
Seems like all the PnP places ony have pre 1996 cherokees-
Cant seem to find 97+
Looking for a overhead console-
Heads up: My spanish speaking amigo says that PnP advertises on TV or radio that the first sunday of the month is a 50% off day. I didn't know of this. Did anyone else??
I was also contemplating the rear disc conversion, but after getting off of my rusty duff and doing a final bleed after the lift install and adjusting the rear brakes, I am no longer thinking about a disc conversion- at least at this time-. I didn't know how far out of adjustment my rear brakes were, and kept thinking, man, XJ brakes suck. No wonder everyone converts to disc!
I have only owned her a couple months, and I haven't gone thru everything just yet-

Go for the ford conversion. Parts are much much easier to come by.
Transwest had at least five or six Crown Vics with all the rear disk parts still in place. I asked them the cost on backing plates, calipers, roters and Ebrake parts. He told me 20 bucks a side.

Thanks Ryan, PnP has crappy prices, $20 makes it worth it to drive up to Transwest.
I looked at so many different calipers that I can't remember what the Ford Crown Vic look like. Do they have the E-brake on the caliper? I saw several others (Ford Taurus, a few Dodge and a bunch of Toyota) calipers with the e-brake on the caliper. The Taurus looked like it would be a snap for hook up a brake, but the backing plate was too different to make mounting it easy.

I understood he wouldn't let the backing plates go without the entire rear end, is that true?

Todd an I have a disagreement on Howels. For some reason he is nice to Todd but he has been a total dick to several of us. Maybe if you went with Todd you would have better results. :D

I believe the Vic brakes are just like the Explorer. The Exploder brakes have a small internal drum e-brake within the rotor. That's the setup I have on my D44, it's 5 on 4 1/2 to boot.
I'd go for Transwest. You can't beat that $20 price.

Howells sucks, both times I have asked him about parts he has been way over priced and has not been kind.:explosion
