I searched and it seems like everybody has an auto. I am trying to figure out my gears and can't find it. I have a 1997 XJ with the AX-15, Chrysler 8.25, and D30 with the 4.0 L. Where do I find stock gear ratio.

Most 5-speeds shipped with 3.07:1 axle gearing (I'm assuming that's what you're talking about...)

Check your front differential cover screws - there should be a tag under a couple of them. You will probably find the gear ratio stamped into that tag (I tell you to check the front, because I've seen Dana tags! I've not seen ChryCo tags...)

Thanks A lot guys! that was a really quick reply. I got 4 in like 2 minutes. So I most likely have 3:07?

My '96 5 speed has 3.07 gears in the differentials. Sure wish they had used 3.55's like the autos used instead.

All 4.0L/manual transmission XJs and MJs got 3.07s from the factory.

Axle gears are 3.071:1 ratio (43/14). The AX15 gear ratios are as follows:

1st 3.837 (165:43) 2nd 2.326 (100:43) 3rd 1.442 (62:43) 4th 1.000 (43:43) 5th 0.791 (34:43)

if it had the offroad pkg (tow hooks/gas skid/t-case skid/engine skid) and an ax-15 tranny behind a 4.0 HO it should have 3.73 gears

at least i test drove one like that
