I was driving around in my XJ the other day and I passed the New Toyota SUV named "FJ" and all I could think of is that it is a wanna be Jeep:smsoap: !!! Just felt that I should express myself.

Facinating contribution. Have you driven one? Perhaps you can share your insight of it's capabilities after your test drive (?).
We can add your writeup to a special section in our Member's area.

You mean an overweight mini cooper?
Dunno about capabilities, just hate the look of the roof

It's a Toyota 4x4. I'd bet it's a very capable rig from the factory.

I've seen a few on the trail - Hell's Revenge in Moab.
While they weren't as good as a stock XJ they're not as bad as say a CRV. I'm not much for the way they look but out of the box they're probably one of the most capable SUV's on the market. I'd say on par with a Liberty.
Actually just from reading the specs (haven't run across one on a trail) the H3 looks like it could be capable!
Oh yeah - there were a LOT of dirty new FJ Cruisers around Moab - I was surprised to see that many out getting used.

I saw a bunch at Paragon on Memorial Day weekend; there was apparently some promo event going on. I didn't get to see them wheel, though; I was on the intermediate trails and I have the feeling that they didn't stray too far from the parking lot.
I don't dislike them, per se, but that doesn't mean I'd want one.

the front bumpers on the FJC are crappy but if you replaced it with a high clearance winch bumper, you've got decent approach angles.
My wife wants one and I like them. I have heard that the e-lockers have had some issues but they are very capable...if I get one, I plan on doing a solid axle conversion on the front.
I would take an FJ over a H2. H3 are capable stock, but who wants those....

I kinda like the look of the H3... wish the windows were a tad taller though.

Just felt that I should expose myself. It's not a wanna be Jeep, it's a wanna be FJ40, which has a pretty rich history. All things considered, it's a pretty capable rig and a strong sales success for Toyota.
Don't take it so personally.

Girlfriend's Stepdad is a salesman at a Toyota Dealership here in Delaware. He wanted to show off it's capabilities so he threw a "D" tag on it and followed us on some trails around Delaware. I will say that the TC is almost 4:1, and it can handle up to 28 inches of sitting water... not blowing through it. I personally dislike anything IFS. His efforts to sway into driving a Toyota in the mud did not work and he was obviously disappointed when he realized most stock Jeep's could do laps around it. From working at the local Hummer dealership for two years I can literally ramble off worthless info about the damn things. H3's are nice, they do have a well developed off road package similar to the "rock crawler" package on the rubicon's. The H3 does come w/ 33's from the factory and does also have a 4:1 t-case. The inline-5 is a dog with topend power but once again, 4.56 gears, limited slip front and rear from the factory for around the same price as a rubicon... it'd be a close choice on my behalf...
